People often experience a moment of epiphany before they decide to shed pounds. This realisation can come in many forms; seeing their own reflection and realising they do not like the things they see, feeling horrified when asked if they’d prefer to try on the next size, or having a health scare that propels them into the direction of healthy eating. For me, it was a horrible bout of gastroenteritis that motivated me into making changes to my lifestyle.
After my family and I ate in a restaurant, I needed the unpleasant experience of catching gastroenteritis. The food was improperly prepared. I had been always careful with my hand washing, even to the level that no family caught the bug once i did. But at the time, our family had not been cooking too often and lots of our diet was made up of fast food and frozen meals.
This unfortunate incident left me feeling physically weak and emotional too. I felt angry at the person who had made me sick, but at the same time, I felt angry at myself. I knew i had put my health into someone else’s hands; that it had been my decision to live the way I used to be. Which is when my epiphany came. I told myself, “NO MORE”. Basically If I wanted to be in charge of my health, I needed to be in charge of a few things i ate. That is certainly when my healthy eating and active lifestyle began.

Don’t stress about eating all various kinds of fruit, focus on the ones you love eating. It’s preferable to make realistic changes, rather than push yourself too difficult.
It’s also very vital that you drink LOTS of water. I hardly ever drink soft drink, cordial, tea or coffee. I haven’t drank alcohol in five years. In my opinion that water is the ideal thing for you, so have plenty of it.
Fast food was previously our saviour, however right now we simply look at it as being a convenience. Rather than depending on another person to prepare for you, MEAL PLAN. Don’t let exercise feel like a chore. Participate in physical exercise that gets you moving but allows you to have some fun at the same time. I used to dislike sport, but my hubby introduced me to his love for Badminton now our family goes weekly, sometimes even three times. We even consider the children for the park to get a play as well as a run around, to get their hearts pumping. Just remember it doesn’t even need to be planned exercise; it could be parking further so you need to walk more, or using the stairs as opposed to the elevator. Just do whatever fits into your life.
